About Josiah

Josiah Provan is an interstylistic composer and pianist with an eye for detail and a heart for telling stories through sound. He blurs lines between styles and genres, blending classical, jazz, and modern music into one language. He especially loves the three-way relationship in which composer, performer, and listener each bring their hearts to musical experiences.

He has been commissioned by the Plumstead Christian School Concert Band, and his works have been performed by the Messiah University Woodwind Quintet, Horn Choir, and Chamber Singers. Current projects include a wind ensemble work for the Carnegie Mellon University Wind Ensemble’s 2027-2028 season, and solo works for flute and tenor. 

Josiah has appeared with the Messiah University Symphony Orchestra as winner of its 2022 Concerto Competition, and with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. He regularly performs as a solo jazz artist and leads the Duck Duck Goose Jazz Trio.

Josiah is a passionate educator and mentor, focusing on well-roundedness, curiosity, and musical intuition in young students of various needs and abilities. This includes work with Azure Family Concerts (a sensory-friendly concert series in Pittsburgh), and many special education classrooms. His philosophy is shaped by his own early experiences in sight-singing, improvisation, and musical movement.

Josiah holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Music from Messiah University and is pursuing an Advanced Music Studies Certificate in Composition at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also the Student Life Director of the Csehy Summer School of Music. Outside of music, Josiah loves non-contact sports, reading, and cooking.
